Exploring Human Rights Norms

Human rights organizations in Sri Lanka have an obligation to address not just individual violations, but also the deep rooted attitudes that encourage heinous crimes against humanity around the country. To create a culture of value for human rights, HHR must not only defend human rights itself, it must also teach others to recognize human rights violations and to defend human rights wherever possible.

To this end, we have created the Exploring Human Rights Norms Programme for service providers and community leaders across Sri Lanka. We conduct five to six two-day training seminars every year, teaching people how to identify their rights and how to defend them. Participants of our training seminars engage in role plays, interviews, skill building exercises, and other interactive situations to learn about the practical implementation of human rights.

HHR training seminars attract a variety of attendees, including school teachers, university students, plantation workers, labour union leaders, medical workers, NGO staff, and other interested parties.

HHR’s experienced staff and accredited university lecturers conduct these training sessions.

If you are interested in hosting a training seminar in your community, please contact us for details.
