Legal Representation for Defense of Human Rights

Our legal defense program is of paramount importance to fulfilling our mission. We provide a host of legal services for victims/survivors of human rights abuses regardless of race, creed, caste, or political affiliation.

We file dozens of fundamental rights applications every year. We help torture victims/survivors get just compensation for the crimes committed against them. We defend the rights of persons arbitrarily arrested or detained. We initiate investigations into the whereabouts of disappeared persons. We help internally displaced persons regain property rights. We represent women in divorce cases so those who endure domestic violence can escape their abusive situations and rebuild a stable and independent life.

We represent victims/survivors of human rights violations on local, national, and international levels. On the local level, we investigate human rights violations and make local anti-harassment and regulatory bodies aware of the violations. On the national level, we file fundamental rights petitions and habeas corpus applications and appear in Magistrate Courts on behalf of our clients. We have also created an in-house mechanism to track all cases for possible domestic remedies. On the international level, we refer cases to international bodies such as the United Nations Human Rights Committee and the Human Rights Commission to bring international attention to state and non-state perpetrators of human rights violations.

HHR’s legal services are geared towards people too poor to afford private attorneys. All legal services are provided free of any charge to our clients.
